Kimmy's First Trip to the ER

Well, we had planned a celebration for Kim being the only person in her class to get 100% on her test. It kinda took a twist though...

Kimmy took her first trip to the emergency room last night. She had been "practicing her kicks" in the front room when we heard a loud crash & she started crying. She had been trying to kick higher than the couch. She was behind the couch and close to the wall with the air return vent. When she swung back and went for another forward kick, BAM ~ right into the vent. OUCH!! She sliced it like a block of cheese.

There was so much blood and it took forever to stop the bleeding that we thought she might need stitches. She was so freaked out about it. She has a phobia of needles and hates shots with a passion! Bryan kept her distracted and kept her laughing. He's a really great dad!! We took her to the emergency room and she wasn't too excited about that idea. I'm glad Bryan was there with us to keep her mind off the pain she was in.

The doctor came in to clean the cut up and she started squirming and getting really tense. When he said, "It's ok, I'm just cleaning it. There are no needles involved right now." she visibly relaxed. She just gave a huge sigh of relief and let him clean without the freak out this time. It looked much better afterwards and it had already started to close up a bit. She was borderline for stitches but the doctor said that it's more likely to be infected if we stitch, so we are just butterfly bandaging it. It's a good thing she got her heel because "heels are so tough and full of dead skin". It could have really been serious if it was another body part.

Kim was so elated afterwards. She was just excited to not have to get stitches!! We were glad to see her feeling better. It will be bruised and tender for a few days and we need to make sure it stays clean. So glad it's not any worse than that!

We made it home afterwards just in time to bring the boys out and watch the space shuttle follow the space station. They were going overhead at 8:48 and they did too ~ right on time. It was so cool to see them streak across the sky. They were so bright!! We watched them until we couldn't see them anymore. I wonder what wattage those light bulbs on the space ships are...

So, not quite the evening we had planned, but it ended on a fun note anyway. We'll just have to break out the ice-cream tonight to celebrate Kim's amazing accomplishment!
